We are an independent charitable foundation supporting community based action in London.  We've made over 3500 grants totalling more than £20 million since 1995 and are part of the worldwide Community Foundation movement.

In London, we face an interesting challenge.  We sit in a centre of prosperity and opportunity, even in current times.  But there are significant difficulties.  Poverty, exclusion, isolation and crime affect too many - and the problems are getting worse.  There is tremendous scope for Londoners to be leaders of social change, but it is not always easy or apparent how to achieve this. 

The Community Foundation exists as a catalyst of social change in London, but unlike the traditional Trust and Foundation, this isn't done with funds that belong simply to us.  Rather, we are the meeting place for many different donors, public and private, with differening interests and areas of concern.  What they share is a commitment to supporting London and a belief that by acting as part of a wider collective, each will achieve far greater than any could alone.

It is difficult to speak adequately or justly of London. It is not a pleasant place; it is not agreeable, or cheerful, or easy, or exempt from reproach. It is only magnificent.
